One of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited has been Costa Rica. Some people say that Central America isn’t that safe, but I can honestly say I felt welcomed the entire stay and found the people to be genuinely happy. I went in June, during the rainy season, which I recommend because it’s more affordable, the jungle is so green and lush, and it’s quieter with less tourists around.
From the San Jose international airport, you can easily rent a car and drive to different destinations since it’s such a small country. I was in Costa Rica for a week and stayed in both La Fortuna and the Guanacaste Province. La Fortuna is the most popular destination and is just a 4-hour drive from the airport. It is a quaint mountain town full of beautiful resorts and activities. There is also a secret waterfall hidden within the cloud forests of Tenorio National Park. The magnificent bright blue Rio Celeste Waterfall hike is not to be missed – it will take your breath away.
Guanacaste Province features pristine beaches and rolling green mountains that teem with wildlife. The rainforest ends right into the beaches which makes you feel as if you are on a private island. I really appreciated that all the forests are protected in Costa Rica and how much the locals care about the environment. Basking in all the organic food with tropical ingredients, hiking, beautiful beaches, and national parks from my trip gave me a glimpse as of why Costa Ricans are some of the happiest people on earth.
