Summer Sandals

February 29, 2016

Straps on straps on straps! The best part of a summer wardrobe has got to be the shoes. I adore the way sandals can become the focal point of any outfit. You can find both affordable and expensive sandals, but they are all so unique and different and the absolute best summer accessory. Here are my top picks to make your feet stand out:

  1. Maryam Nassir ZadehBlue Palma High Heel
  2. Beatrice Valenzuela: Nude Sandalia
  3. ClareV: Flat Red Leather Sandal
  4. Phillip Lim: Martini Ankle Lace Flat Sandals
  5. Mui Mui: Jewel Heel Sandals
  6. Stella McCartney: Black Strap Sandals

Los Angeles Farmers Markets

February 28, 2016

Almost every single day of the year, there is a farmers market happening in Southern California. Again, this is just another reason I love living in a climate where year-round there is the opportunity to buy local and organic produce. It is so much fun to stroll the different aisles at the market, meet the farmers, taste the baked goods and fruits, and get creative with the ingredients in your meal plan. Before moving to California, I had never used persimmons and now I can’t imagine the harvest season without them. Here are my top five East LA markets:

Sedona

February 18, 2016

I had a lovely getaway in Arizona over the weekend. I did the trek from Los Angeles to Tucson to Sedona and then back to California. It was a lot of driving, but absolutely worth it! I had never been to either of the cities before, but went with a friend from Colorado that travels there all the time and she showed me around.

Mexican Chic

February 16, 2016

I have always had a deep appreciation for handmade craft and traditional patterning. Living in Los Angeles, I am constantly surrounded by cultures represented south of the border and therefore I tend to draw inspiration from traditional Mexican textiles. Here are my top Mexican inspired goods:

  1. Barrington Blue: Custom Kilim Bench
  2. Foudling: Bedouin Blouse Chilli
  3. Margarita Carrillo Arronte: Mexico: The Cookbook
  4. Olli: ‘Tropic of Capricorn’ Multicolor Lounger
  5. Mexchic: Hand Woven Wool Shag Rug
  6. Garza Marfa: Saddle Leather Round Chair

Malibu

February 12, 2016

Next to Palm Springs, my second favorite place in California is Malibu or the “Bu”. And in my opinion, the best part of living in Los Angeles is that you can be in any environment you choose within a couple hours. Malibu has it all: there are pristine beaches, a world-class museum, fresh seafood restaurants, cute cafes and boutiques, wineries, and serene hiking trails.

Lemon Cake

February 6, 2016

It’s Meyer Lemon season here in Southern California! The bright yellow citrus fruit has endless uses from baking, juicing, and preserving to sweet and savory recipes. Lemons add acid – which can heighten other flavors – and a bright, tangy flavor to foods. Lemons are also full of vitamin C, folate, fiber, and potassium. I used some lemons I picked up at the farmers market to make Ina Garten’s lemon cake that was so scrumptious, Merry Berry would have been impressed. This is probably one of the best cakes I’ve ever made and I urge you to try it with fresh, local lemons.

Brightening Serums

February 1, 2016

Although I am a firm believer that eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water creates the best natural looking skin, I also know that adding a brightening serum to your beauty routine will bring your face to a whole new level. I have always had insecurities about the texture and blotchiness of my skin until I added an organic day and night serum to help balance it out. I highly recommend any of these natural serums because they are skin feeding and rich in vitamins A, C and E:

  1. Marie Veronique: Serum De Jour
  2. Odacité: CaR | Vital Glow
  3. Aesop: Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum
  4. Antonia Burrell: Radiant Light Facial Serum
  5. One Love Organics: Vitamin C Brightening Facial Serum
  6. REN Clean Skincare: Radiance Perfection Serum
