Salvation Mountain

Just east of the Salton Sea and about a hour and a half from Palm Springs is Salvation Mountain. Salvation Mountain is Leonard Knight’s tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: “God Is Love.” Salvation Mountain is like stepping into a Dr. Seuss story — if Dr. Seuss stories were set in a desert commune and surrounded by fancifully-painted messages about God.

Knight stayed in the area for nearly three decades building the mountain out of hay bales, adobe, and half a million gallons of paint. Continue Reading
